Code a Character 2

Spongebob Squarepants

Award winning educational game for Nickelodeon

Art of Play's brief from Nickelodeon for this project was to come up with a fun way for kids to learn the basics of coding in Javascript. The final app gives the player control over chracters from the Spongebob Squarepants and Game Shakers brands with a unique custom interface which works just as well on desktop and mobile.

The player is guided through the game, learning snippets of code as they go to control their character to perform wacky dances and movements. Initially the snippets of code can be dragged into the console, but as the player learns they can begin typing in commands, learning about syntax, arguments, looping and more. The game won a number of awards, including the 2017 Kidscreen award for best learning app.

I've been lucky enough to work on a number of other web games and mobile apps for the Spongebob Brand, including Bikini Bottom Beats, Beachy Keen, Bikini Bottom Mysteries, and Krabby Patty Krisis.
